Title: Integrated Outcrop and Subsurface Studies of the Interwell Environment of Carbonate Reservoirs: Clear Fork (leonaradian Age) Reservoirs, West Texas and New Mexico Semi-annual Report

چکیده
Petrophysical heterogeneity in the South Wasson Clear Fork (SWCF) reservoir and other shallow-water platform carbonates in the Permian Basin and elsewhere is composed of a large-scale stratigraphically controlled component and a small-scale poorly correlated component. The large-scale variability exists as a flow-unit scale petrophysical layering that is laterally persistent at interwell scales and produces highly stratified reservoir behavior. Capturing the rate-enhancing effect of the small-scale variability requires carefully controlled averaging procedures at four levels of scaleup. Porosity can be easily scaled using arthimatic averaging procedures. Permeability, however, requires carefully controlled power-averaging procedures. Effective permeability is increased at every scaleup level.

A Review of Reservoir Rock Typing Methods in Carbonate Reservoirs: Relation between Geological, Seismic, and Reservoir Rock Types
Carbonate reservoirs rock typing plays a pivotal role in the construction of reservoir static models and volumetric calculations. The procedure for rock type determination starts with the determination of depositional and diagenetic rock types through petrographic studies of the thin sections prepared from core plugs and cuttings. In the second step of rock typing study, electrofacies are deter...
متن کاملInvestigation of a Powerful Tool for the Development of Thinly Bedded Carbonate Reservoirs (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In thin-layered reservoirs, drilling engineers face tough challenges—planning their drilling programs to follow the most productive reservoir layers while avoiding nearby water, gas or high-pressure zones. The rewards for a successful drilling strategy are clear—increased oil production and reduced water cut. In an oil field in the Persian Gulf, for example, oil production was increased four- t...
متن کاملA New Approach towards Precise Planar Feature Characterization Using Image Analysis of FMI Image: Case Study of Gachsaran Oil Field Well No. 245, South West of Iran
Formation micro imager (FMI) can directly reflect changes of wall stratums and rock structures. Conventionally, FMI images mainly are analyzed with manual processing, which is extremely inefficient and incurs a heavy workload for experts. Iranian reservoirs are mainly carbonate reservoirs, in which the fractures have an important effect on permeability and petroleum production. In this paper, a...
متن کاملThe Late Cenomanian-Coniacian Gattar and Aleg reservoirs in Sidi Bouzid area, Central Tunisia: Logging, diagenesis and reservoir implications
At the Sidi Bouzid area located in Central Tunisia, Cenomanian-Turonian reservoir rocks are well outcropping, especially in the Jebel el Kébar and Meloussi areas. The present work confirms that these carbonate intervals constitute the lateral equivalent of the Early-Middle Turonian Biréno and Late Turonian-Coniacian Douleb reservoir Members which are included within the pelagic marls of the Tur...
متن کاملRock physical modeling enhancement in hydrocarbon reservoirs using Choquet fuzzy integral fusion approach
Rock physics models are widely used in hydrocarbon reservoir studies. These models make it possible to simulate a reservoir more accurately and reduce the economic risk of oil and gas exploration. In the current study, two models of Self-Consistent Approximation followed by Gassmann (SCA-G) and Xu-Payne (X-P) were implemented on three wells of a carbonate reservoir in the southwest of Ira...
